Online retailer DealsDirect buys Dinosaur Deals

Wow, can Jonathan Bass keep a secret or what!

Not a whisper out of him about the pending deal at the PeSA Summit in Sydney last week.

Deals Direct co-owner Paul Greengerg announced the deal today. He stated that with over 100,000 unique customers Dinosaur Deals was a growth acquisition. This move is a really postive sign for online retailers, proving the worth of investing in multi-channel online retailing. Good luck Jonathan.

www.zazzle.com.au - Fantastic Business Opportunity

Nathan and Phil both twittered today about a new business opportunity that is worthy of your time. www.zazzle.com.au allows you to design original merchandise and sell the through internet sales. They pay a commission on all sales. This is a great business model, similar in many ways to the company in the US that sold all the eBay merchandise online for eBay. I've been online and checked it out, a great business and the owners are highly regarded by both Phil and Nathan.

John Lawson - colderICE - #pesa09 Social Media Speaker

Hey, I went to add John Lawson #colderICE to my Facebook account, as he instructed all delegates to do at the #pesa09 #ebay summit in Sydney Australia.
Chechout the 'good-omen' I received for John, while I was adding him to follow. Good things happen to good people, so I hope for John's sake the omen rings true.
Geez $10,000,000,000 is a lot of money. Check out the image:

ALISTAIR MCGIBBON, FOUNDER, HIGH TECH CRIME OPERATIONS, AFP

I was watching the 4 corners progam tonight and guess who I found -- Alister McGibbon, formerly of eBay Australia, Head of Trust and Safety. Looks like he has started his own consultancy dealing with internet crime. I'm sure he will succeed, he would have to be one of the most knowledgable people in Australia (including the Asia-Pacific) regading internet crime. I've met Alister on quite a few occassions through PeSa and have always been impressed with his knowledge and vision regarding internet crime and the criminal mind. I hope he does well in his new venture, he was fantastic at eBay. Good luck Alister.

Funny eBay Feedback Story - Strange People

So, I thought I'd start with my own weird feedback comment story. This one is a classic. A few years back I was selling messenger bags on eBay, they were the cheap canvas and vinyl type. At the time they proved to be quite popular with young males and sold to the US and UK as well as Australia. The price point was AU$14.99 plus $4.50 shipping ($9.50 to US), so not high quality or exclusive, just a nice simple canvas bag.

You can imagine my reaction when I received the following feedback comment from a young fellow in the US. ""Fast delivery but the bag has leather and I'm vegetarian :( "" wot the???? I'm not sure what he was smoking or how long he had been a vegetarian, but I assured him not to worry as the insert was vinyl, not leather.

I had suggestions from a couple of friends as to how to respond to the feedback;
response 1. Our village has lost it's idiot, has anybody seen our idiot?
response 2. We guarantee that no 'Vinyls' were harmed in the manufacture of this product.

I've got more funny eBay stories, to share, that I've gathered over the years from friends, so if you'd like to contribute please email your funny/sad/terrible/tragic eBay story to artifact@bigpond.net.au

PeSA Summit 09 Sydney Australia

Wow, just returned from the PeSA Summit in Sydney Australia. I was fortunate enough to be asked to MC (master of ceremonies) the event. It was a really great gig and so much fun. Over 320 delegates turned out to hear speakers from both Australia and the US deliver a great range of info and advice on how to 'power up' their eBay businesses. Delegates spoke directly to senior executives of eBay, Paypal, Channel Advisor and many other important players in this space.

Without doubt the most outstanding contribution to the event was from John Lawson of colderICE in Atlanta Georgia (USA) with his entertaining and challenging expose on Social Marketing. Not only was John able to clearly define social networking and it's benefits, he was also able to explain and detail the pathway to monetise the whole phenomenon.
